If you need a quick energy boost on a busy day, a freshly made fruit or vegetable drink may be just the tonic you need.
A new business in Beaverton, Nekter Juice Bar, offers handcrafted bowls, superfood smoothies, fresh juices and grab-and-go bottles, which are cold-pressed bottled juices in many flavors.
Under the ownership of the husband and wife team of Kelly and David Barker, the Beaverton franchise opened in January 2025 and held an official grand opening April 19.
“Kelly and I have always wanted to open something, start a business,” David Barker said. “That led to a visit to California and we were with family. They were big Nekter Juice Bar people and we had never been before. We went with them and we loved the concept (of the juice bar).”
Nekter is located nationally, with many in California, where the business is based. Nekter Juice Bar offers fresh and frozen fruit drinks, along with fresh vegetable choices.
“There are no added sugars in anything; it’s more of a healthy choice,” David Barker said. “The philosophy is something healthy while being affordable.”
He added, “When we make a juice, we’re actually using kale, we’re using celery, we’re using cucumbers, apples. When we make a smoothie, we’re using frozen strawberries, frozen bananas, frozen pineapple.”
At Nekter Juice Bar, it’s all about catering to a customer’s specific desire.
“What’s great about this store is we kind of have a predesigned menu, but everything is customizable, so you can add modifications, you can take things out,” Kelly Barker said. “We’re a fast, healthy option for any fitness or health-minded, focused person that wants to get that quick hit, but doesn’t have time for a full blown lunch or is out running errands.”
A popular item at the juice bar is the acai bowl. According to its website, Nekter was the first juice and smoothie concept to introduce acai bowls as a full menu category.
“We did it first and we do it best, with real ingredients like housemade cashew milk (made fresh daily) and acai topped with fresh fruit and a variety of superfood add-ons for a light and nourishing meal,” the website says.
Frozen fruit forms the base of a bowl with three granola options: a normal granola, a protein peanut butter granola and a gluten-free option.
Kelly Barker was pleased with the April 19 grand opening.
“It was really exciting to see the community come out,” she said. “We had a tremendous amount of people come and visit the store. It was really a hopeful sign for us that everyone is going to embrace us in the community, and we’re looking forward to sticking around for a long time, hopefully.”
There are three other Nekter Juice Bar franchise locations in the Portland metro, including in Lake Oswego and two in Vancouver, Washington. A third Oregon location is situated in Eugene.
Nekter Juice Bar is located at 14637 S.W. Teal Blvd. in Beaverton.
